Lucerne
Lucerne is the most populous city in Central Switzerland.
Due to its location on the Reuss River near the shore of Lake Lucerne and close to Mount Pilatus in the Swiss Alps, Lucerne has long been a destination for tourists.
We recommend you stay in the city for at list 2 nights.
Main sights recommended are:
- Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe and one of Switzerland main tourist attractions.
- The Lion Monument (Löwendenkmal), known as "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world" (Mark Twain).
- Spreuer Bridge, the second wooden covered bridge.
- Jesuit Church, The first large sacral Baroque church in Switzerland.
- Musegg Wall, the old town walls with nine watch towers.
- Walk the streets of the remarkably preserved small old town north of the Reuss River. Visit the Old City Squares and see the beautiful painted fronts of the buildings and the Town Hall.
- Visit the "White Castle", Hotel Château Gütsch on the hilltop. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of Lucerne city and lake.
