Budapest is divided by the Danube River into two parts: Buda on the west-bank and Pest, comprising about two thirds of the city's territory on the east-bank.

Connecting the two parts of the city is the famous Chain Bridge. It was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Budapest, and was opened in 1849.
