Salzburg
Salzburg ("Salt Fortress") is the fourth-largest city in Austria and its "Old Town" (Altstadt) has internationally renowned baroque architecture and one of the best-preserved city centers north of the Alps. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Salzburg has three universities and a large population of students and it is noted for its attractive setting and scenic Alpine backdrop.
Salzburg was the birthplace of 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the mid 20th century, the city was the setting for parts of the musical and film "The Sound of Music".
The city is located on the banks of the Salzach River and The Altstadt is dominated by its baroque towers and churches and the massive Hohensalzburg Fortress.
