Sweden

Sweden is the third-largest country in the European Union by area. Sweden has a total population of 10.2 million of which 2.4 million has a foreign background.

Situated in Northern Europe, Sweden lies west of the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Bothnia, providing a long coastline, and forms the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula.

Sweden has one of the most highly developed welfare states in the world.

The country's capital and largest city is Stockholm. Other major cities are Gothenburg, Malmo and Uppsala.

Sweden is the seventh-richest country in the world in terms of GDP (gross domestic product) per capita and a high standard of living is experienced by its citizens. The country ranks among the highest for telephone and Internet access penetration.

In 2016 there were around 29 million arrivals at accommodation establishments in Sweden.
