Greece is a country in Southeast Europe. Athens is the nation's capital and largest city. Greece's population is 11.4 million in 2013.

Greece has the 11th longest coastline in the world at 13,676 km in length, featuring a vast number of islands (approximately 1,400, of which 227 are inhabited), the largest one is Crete. 80% of Greece consists of mountains, of which Mount Olympus is the highest at 2,917 m.

Modern Greece traces its roots to the civilization of Ancient Greece, considered the cradle of Western civilization.

Greece attracts more than 17.5 million people each year, contributing 15% to the nation's GDP.

It is recommended to visit Athens, the island of Corfu in the Ionian Sea, Meteora and its "hanging monasteries", Saloniki and the towns and beaches in the Chalkidiki peninsula, Volos and the villages in its area.

The islands recommended to visit in the east are Crete, Rhodes, Mykonos and Santorini.
