Thailand
The Kingdom of Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia with coasts on the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Known as Siam until 1939, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been colonized by a foreign power, and is fiercely proud of the fact.
Thailand is a constitutional monarchy, with the king as a very highly respected and revered Head of State.
With great food, a tropical climate, fascinating culture and great beaches, Thailand is a magnet for travelers the world over.
Bangkok is the capital and the most populous city of Thailand.
Tourism is a major economic factor in the Kingdom of Thailand, directly contributing an estimated 7.3% to Thailand's GDP in 2012.
Thailand is divided into five geographic and cultural regions including main tourist attractions:
- Northern Thailand -Chiang Mai, hill tribes, and the Golden Triangle.
- Isaan -It is the northeast region which has magnificent Khmer ruins.
- Central Thailand -Bangkok, lowlands and historic Thailand.
- Eastern Thailand -Beaches and islands on the Gulf of Thailand such as Pattaya, Ko Chang and Ko Samet.
- Southern Thailand -many beautiful islands and beaches on both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, such as the largest island Phuket, Krabi, Ko Phi Phi, the second largest island Ko Samui , Ko Tao and many famous beach spots in the area.
